Earth Day is here! As a Native American, I believe that Earth Day is everyday and we should always be considerate of the world that makes sure we have everything we need EVERYDAY without ever asking for anything… but respect. Take that into consideration.
Well, for Earth day, I choose to post up a few ways to make fashion and beauty earth friendly.
Give to a Goodwill or Salvation Army. This is one quick and easy way of recycling, and a great way to give back to your community, especially those in need. When you change over your winter clothes to get your bright summer clothing give your unwanted clothing to the Salvation Army or the Goodwill which will not only give you more room but it will also give you a reason to get more fashionable clothing! Oh, don’t forget to shop there too!
Shop at a vintage or consignment store. The clothing you can get from a vintage store or consignment store is clothing that is being reused by you!
Up-cycle your clothing. Up-cycling your clothing is one of the most creative, inspirational, and sometimes funniest ways of giving your clothing a new life. There are so many different up-cycling blogs like, jembellish.blogspot.com and refashionista.net that can really give you ideas on how to revamp your wardrobe.
Recycle your beauty product containers for free with Garnier and get charitable gifts. Each year millions of personal care products and beauty product packages are needlessly discarded and end up in landfills, but a company called, TerraCycle® partnered with Garnier® to create a second life for these empty containers. They send you the packaging label and award you two TerraCycle points which can be redeemed for a variety of charitable gifts or for a payment of $0.01 per point to the non-profit organization or school of your choice. Click here to learn more about the TerraCycle Points Program!
Give your shoes. I found a few places to give your shoes for a good cause like, Soles 4 Souls, where your gently used shoes are given to victims of disaster. There is also Nike, who offers a “reuse-a-shoe” program which accepts not only Nike but all brands of athletic shoes which are recycled into sports surfaces. Visit ww.nikereuseashoe.com to locate the nearest drop-off location.
Give your old prom dresses. Prom season will be ending soon and you most likely won’t be wearing the dress again so you can recycle by donating your dress to either the Princess Project for the Bay Area or The Glass Slipper Project for the Chicago area, so a girl who can’t afford a dress can still be the belle of the ball. Not to mention there are also so many prom dress drives happening during prom time to help you save money.
Find something to do with old jeans! I found this awesome article called “Twenty-five Things to Do With Old Jeans” check it out and see what you can do!
